Senior Trip: Canada

Before Bloomsburg, I first lived in Long Island, New York. Later on I moved to Atglen, Pennsylvania, where I am currently living.
At Bloomsburg, I want to major in Elementary Education, Kindergarden through fourth grade, with a minor in English as a Second Language.
Right now, I’m most interested in getting my degree and learning all that I need to know about being the best teacher I can strive to be.
My favorite musical artist is unknown, seeing as I like many.
My favorite movie is also unknown, because I have many favorites. Although I do enjoy comedies, romance, action, and science fiction type flicks. I am not a big thriller movie buff, but I will occasionally watch a few.
One thing I like to do in my spare time is sing. I was in chorus since Kindergarden till twelfth grade. Along with high school chorus, I was also involved in a small ensemble, called the Jubilee Singers, for four years.
When it comes to technology, I’m most comfortable with…(put X next to all that apply):

X Microsoft Word
X Microsoft Powerpoint
X Email
X Cellphone
X Text messaging
X Taking cellphone pictures
X Taking cellphone video
X Taking cellphone audio
O Video editing
X Blogging or Social Networking (e.g., Facebook)
X Making websites

My favorite teachers were the ones who focused on helping their students learn as much they could and sought to help us see how learning can be fun. I personally loved to see them striving to see us succeed in life.
But I didn’t like classes in which the teacher didn’t try to make it as interesting as possible or didn't care whether we passed or failed.
In this class, I’m most nervous about other students reading my opinions and thoughts out of fear that they may judge me.
In this class, I’m most excited about learning how to teach to different styles of learning and making it a fun experience for children. My goal is to make learning how to make teaching as fun and educational as possible for the children.
If there’s one thing you should know about me as a student, it’s I have a tendency to ask a lot of questions so I am positive on the instructions of the assignment that has been given. I tried to give all that is asked in an assignment.
If there’s one thing you should know about me in general, it’s that I talk a lot. Most of the time I can go on for hours, but I have been working on limiting my motor mouth.

I taught my good friend Eryn how to use a Mac Book Pro.

--To what learning styles does the lesson you were trying to teach seem to appeal (for instance, shooting baskets might appeal most to Kinesthetic and Interpersonal intelligences)? The lesson I was trying to teach seems to apply best to people who have a bodily kinesthetic learning style. It required the ability to use the body and tools to take effective action, to construct or repair, to console, or to plan strategically. It is a hands on lesson.
--In terms of multiple intelligences, what were the strengths and struggles of the person you were trying to teach? How did this help or hinder your efforts? Since a mac computer does not have their applications listed, but rather has pictures for each application, Eryn struggled with not knowing what the applications were right away. She had no trouble operating the track pad after she learned that to click u push the track pad down. Eryn is a visual learner so when watching me demonstrate or watching me give directions using hand motions, she didn't struggle at all. Learning that she learns visually saptial ally helped me be able to make my directions easier for her. Eryn was a very eager and willing learner through out the entire process.
--What evidence did you have that the person had learned the lesson? In terms of multiple intelligences, what form(s) did that evidence take? In the end, she was able to operate the mac with ease. I did not need to tell her how to do things after she had learned them. It was very visually obvious that she had learned how to use a mac book pro. The evidence was shown in astyle. Overall this lesson was a success and I had learned quite a bit about adjusting my teaching style to their learning needs.

How did genre, audience, and purpose figure in those processes?
Teaching:
In my teaching attempts, the genre of the teaching style helped me reach my audience in a successful way. This was the purpose of the assignment, to adjust our teaching styles to our audience using their genre of learning style. It was a tricky process but overall a great way to learn about teaching.
"Healthiest" Meal:
In the "healthiest" meal assignment, we focused on an audience who only had five dollars to spend on a healthy meal. The genre of the food was considered healthy and cheap. The purpose of the assignment was to find a cheap meal that required very little money, considering how the economy is doing poorly and many families have had to result to this. Also it taught us how to work together as a group. Altogether, it was a fun experience and educational as well.
