Topic Choice: Jane Goodall List five facts that you already know about this person:
Jane Goodall studied the behaviors of chimpanzees.
She discovered that chimpanzees use tool making and her research showed a lot of other remarkable similarities between humans and chimpanzees.
She traveled to Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania, East Africa to perform her research and observations of chimpanzees.
She made the Jane Goodall Institute which helps living things to stay alive and stay healthy. The institute is now located in Virginia.
She had prosopagnosia, a neurological condition that does not allow you to remember people’s faces; she could however remember all the faces of the chimpanzees.
Answer these questions about this person: 1. How did this person impact the world? Jane Goodall spent days studying chimpanzees in the wild and her research impacted the way zoos and laboratories treat animals. After she was done complying all of her research she wrote many books about all of her findings of chimpanzees; these books helped children and adults to understand more about nature, how important chimpanzees are, and how similar we are to chimpanzees. Jane Goodall impacted the world because she provided the world with a lot of information about primates that nobody ever knew before.
2. Why do we still learn about this person and his/her works today?
We still learn about Jane Goodall and her works today because her research makes up a lot of the information we know about chimpanzees and wildlife. Jane Goodall devoted her life in observing and recording all different types of information about chimpanzees. We are still learning about her works because her work is exposed everywhere; books, internet sites, articles, etc. Jane Goodall made a huge contribution in all of the things we know about chimpanzees. When you are reading about how chimpanzees use tools you are actually reading about one of Jane’s observations.
3. Why are you interested in researching this person?
I am interested in researching Jane Goodall because I love animals and I am very interested in her work of studying chimpanzees. 4. How do you personally connect with this person?
I personally connect with Jane Goodall because I share an interest in animals with her. I consider her one of my heroes and someday I want to follow in her footsteps. I want to travel to a different country and observe and take pictures of the different wildlife. I really want to travel to Australia and study the wildlife there; I also have an interest in photography and I would want to document the wildlife I observed by taking pictures.
Resources What resources do you think will be useful to you? Specific books? Series of books? Magazines? Periodicals? Interviews? Internet sites? Films? Other? I think Internet sites will be the most useful to me. I also am going to look for some books about Jane Goodall in Bloomsburg’s library. I am also going to try and find an interview of Jane Goodall online because I think that will help me understand her better and how she felt about her journeys.
